The purpose of life !

In his book “THE PURPOSE-DRIVEN LIFE”, Rick Warren says “The purpose of your life is far greater than your own personal fulfilment, your peace of mind, or even your own happiness. Its greater than your family, your career, or even your wildest dreams and ambitions. You were born by His purpose and for His purpose Focussing on ourselves will never reveal life’s purpose. It only leads to self centeredness. You can usually succeed in reaching your goals if you put your mind to it .But being successful and fulfilling your life’s purpose are not at all the same issue. You could reach all your personal goals, becoming a raving success by the world’s standard and still miss the purpose for which God created you.” The following poem is based on this very important -but often forgotten fact.

I had to climb this mountain,
It was named my ‘life’.
It was like an assignment
Handed down for a time.

At the bottom, it was easy,
I could quickly climb up.
But with time, I slowed down,
& began to wonder what drove me.

I saw how many reached the top,
& how many faded away.
Some found the easiest paths,
While others did it the hard way.

I looked for something to drive me,
Something to lead me till the end.
Something which will neither stop
Nor leave me around the bend.

Some asked me to look within
And find my inner strength.
But it led me to self-centeredness
The selfish ‘I’ became my only friend.

This real search led me
To Jesus – a guiding friend.
He promised to be with me
& guide me till the end.

We didn’t always go where I wanted
Sometimes it was the other way.
We weren’t aiming for the top,
We aimed for the right place.

Overtime I learnt to follow,
And obey His Living Word.
It wasn’t always the easiest,
But was best and right for me.

So I began my journey
With a complete change of mind,
Jesus is the best guide
That one can ever find.

God intends that every man
Take his right place in life.
And He promises to be with you
Through stress, pain and strife.

You are given all tools
To reach this very place.
To be adamant to have your way
Is complete waste of your days.

There are many who never try
Many who stop half way,
Many promise to follow now
And forget it the next day.

But there a few who at
Their comfort, cost and time,
Work along with God;
Their ending is happier than the starting part.

You don’t have to be successful
To fulfil your purpose in life-
You just have to follow
And reach your place in life.

Colossians 1:16
